One sad thing about this episode is, and I mean absolutely no ill toward McCoy’s character when I say this, how different Kirk and Spock’s reaction to McCoy being in peril is from the way they react to each other being in peril.
Kirk trapped in another dimension/has amnesia/threatened by a Horta? Spock’s all “I WILL GO WITHOUT FOOD OR SLEEP TO RESCUE MY BB EVEN THOUGH IT’S ILLOGICAL AS ALL HELL”
Spock’s brain gone? Spock dead? Kirk’s “AW HELL NO, IMMA GET HIM BACK AT ANY COST!”
McCoy dying from a terminal illness? “Oh how sad, but there’s nothing we can do I suppose.”
Poor Bones. :/

OOOOOOOOH YES. You know if it had been Spock killed, Kirk would have gone all crazycakes (and vice versa).
Poor McCoy. :( Being third wheel sucks ass. I mean even in Shore Leave, Spock beamed down on a broken transporter, taking a risk that just one more person would be able to get through because he just had to be by Kirk’s side, and yet they both just sadface when McCoy gets stabbed with a spear? No wonder McCoy is grumpy.
